Member of parish liturgy committee excommunicates herself by participating in sham ordination by Roman Catholic Womenpriests

A member of the liturgy committee at a San Francisco parish was “ordained a deacon” on Saturday, June 23, according to the website of Roman Catholic Womenpriests. Participants in such sham ceremonies are automatically excommunicated, but the group has repeatedly rejected the ruling of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on the subject.

The event took place at Trinity Episcopal Church in San Francisco, where Olivia Doko, “bishop” of the Western Region of Roman Catholic Womenpriests, “ordained” Maria Eitz. According to the website of St. John of God Catholic Church in San Francisco, Eitz is a member of the parish’s Liturgy Committee. Now that Eitz has incurred automatic excommunication, it’s up to either Fr. Methodius Kiwale, administrator of the parish, or the Archbishop of San Francisco to determine whether she will be removed from her post on the committee.

Much of the direction at St. John of God is supplied by the church’s deacon, Brian Bromberger. The majority of the published sermons on the St. John of God website are his. Bromberger, who previously served at San Francisco’s Most Holy Redeemer Parish, led St. John of God parishioners at San Francisco’s 2011 “Gay Pride” parade.

Trinity Episcopal has long provided space to a Roman Catholic Womenpriests group called “Sophia in Trinity” for twice-monthly liturgies led by “Womanpriest” and open lesbian Victoria Rue.

Over the past 18 months CalCatholic has published a number of articles documenting the “ordination” of women who serve, or have served, in Catholic parish ministries. Maureen Mancuso, an RCIA instructor at Christ the King parish in Pleasant Hill, was “ordained” a “womandeacon” by Doko on September 18, 2011 in Santa Barbara. “Ordained” as a “womandeacon” during the same event was open lesbian Jennifer O’Malley, who had served on the Ministry to Gay and Lesbian Catholics for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Her biography on the RCWP website notes that O’Malley “previously worked as a Coordinator of Youth ministry at a parish in the archdiocese of Los Angeles and was a program director for a national Catholic service learning program.”

According to the Autumn 2011 issue of GLOings, the newsletter of the LA archdiocese’s Ministry to Gay and Lesbian Catholics, O’Malley was one of seven persons receiving the “Lumen Christi” award at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in Hollywood on Oct. 22, 2011 — after she had been “ordained,” and thereby, excommunicated.

Despite an explicit warning from the Vatican that participation in such sham ordinations results in automatic excommunication, Roman Catholic Womenpriests remains defiant. Posted prominently on the group’s website is the following statement: “Roman Catholic Womenpriests reject the penalty of excommunication issued by the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith on May 29, 2008 stating that the women priests and the bishops who ordain them would be excommunicated latae sententiae. Roman Catholic Womenpriests are loyal members of the church who stand in the prophetic tradition of holy obedience to the Spirit’s call to change an unjust law that discriminates against women.”

According to a listing of “Projected Ordinations for 2012” on the RCWP website, another such ceremony is scheduled for Oct. 7 in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. No other details were provided.

Way past time to end the ministry to Gay and Lesbian Catholics in the LA Archdiocese. Why not a Masturbaters and Adulterers ministry? It is a scandal to the Church Militant. Is Archbishop Gomez aware this occurs in his archdiocese? Then again, given the heterodox conduct at the Religious Ed. Congress, perhaps it bothers him not in the least.

Doesn’t it seem like these people live in a parallel universe? They aren’t really aware of any traditional Catholic teachings so they had to invent their own because in their world, rules do not exist and God is just what they imagine ‘her’ to be. To the woman in the photo, her god has white short hair and glasses, with a dowager hump and lots of wrinkles. To the other members, their god surprisingly looks alot like them…and it would seem this god doesn’t mind what they do, as long as they don’t ‘hurt anyone else’. Where do you suppose they go after they die? I suppose to an alternate heaven as well. As I’ve said before, in ages past, people who shared this view also shared accomodations in Bedlam. Nowadays, they’ve brought Bedlam to us and we’re all expected to be Bedlamites. A few years ago it was called “I’m okay, you’re okay” but I don’t know what we’re calling it now, but if we don’t name it and claim, they’ll be calling themselves ‘all of us’.

Niederauer; (and Abp Gomez for the upconing ceremony in the LA Diocese) 2) if this does not correct the scandal, heretic and schismatic actions contact the US Papal Nuncio in Washington DC and the Vatican. When in doubt of what the Church teaches read the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” which is very clear on this subject. These women can not call themselves “Catholic” but “Catholic heretics”. To stop the Scandal, we must use accurate terminology.

Besides their actions being condemned by Rome, I would think they could see they are not in communion with the Roman Church by the mere fact that they have to hold these events at an Episcopal Church or other non Catholic church. Absence from these sham ceremonies would be adviseable for the laity. The obstinence of these people will determine their fate. I hope that we can all continue to pray for these people, it is a sad statement of their so-called “loyalty” because they are trying to say that their disobedience is “good” and we know what happens to those who do that. Very sad, and completely a demonic expression. So, stay away from their doings, people. I know that God is watching and will not be mocked by their actions. There will be His last word in all of this.

Why does CalCatholic concede the title of “deaconess” to her in the title? And why is the SF Archdiocese so ambivalent in what to do with regard to her role ( and Bromberger for that matter) in the parish? It will be interesting to see if this defiant woman in profound error will be dealt with more swiftly than the multitudes of defiant gay men acting out in grievous error as well in this out-of-control archdiocese. I am sorry to say that we have been conditioned to believe that the woman will be dealt with, whereas the men are free to cavort gaily in loud and proud defiance of decorum and Church law. It would be a wonderful thing to be proven wrong, and to see all the miscreants dealt with as common decency and respect for our Holy Roman Catholic Church require.

Maryanne Leonard, your concern is a valid one and brings up an interesting point. Upon reflection, I would guess that one reason women who attempt ordination are more swiftly dealt with is that such actions bring about automatic excommunication, whereas illicit sexual activity does not. The word “Excommunication” makes headlines, and such acts (e.g., the desecration of the Eucharist, abortion, ‘attempted ordinatons,’ etc.) grab the attention of Rome very quickly.

Olivia Doko is a nut. She’s not all there. She used to be a member of my parish here in San Luis Obispo. I think she was a reader and a catechist. She was one of the wannabe female priestesses that used to (ugh!) conduct communion services back when we had a shortage of priests. After awhile she began wearing a stole. When the bishop learned about it she was excluded from all liturgical ministries in the diocese. A year later she was a make-believe “bishop” within her mascaraed group. Purge them all.

I stay away from churches with people like this on the committees. Why even bother to go there if the faith is not taught. You can read the catechism or the Bible and get more out of it and not have to pay a cent other than the price of the books.

How or why our bishops are so weak and timid, I cannot fathom. Their inaction is a bigger scandal than those old ladies usurping and thumbing their nose at the Church they supossedly believe in yet insist they are divinely authorized to “play church” like little kids do! What I was trying to say in my last post is that according to the Church teaching that I have been taught, no Catholic is required to go to a Mass where heresy (heresy not just small liturgical abuses) is being taught, and if after they have complained to the proper person, usually the bishop it does not change, and there is no other Catholic church around, no one is required to go to such a church to fulfill their Mass obligation, especially if one has children who would be taught heresy. Pope John Paul II clearly stated that the Catholic Church has NO AUTHORITY to ordain women as priests. It will NEVER be done,

And what’s up with our “friends” at Trinity Lutheran? The same demonination in our community regularly has dissident “catholic” groups use their church for this anti-Catholic garbage! Providing this information in a post does make it a little easier for motivated readers to get in touch with the right person readily and would prevent the time-consuming task of looking up the information online before actually following through with getting in touch with the appropriate person. Avoiding little delays like that can cause a reader to follow through right away while the impulse is still fresh in their minds, rather than deciding it’s too much like work to take time to look it up, and thus not taking action. Checking out and posting the more obscure contact information on behalf of readers would definitely be especially helpful in getting the attention of the appropriate parties.

Catholics seem to have the power to complain directly to Rome about the closing of their parishes in Cleveland Ohio with success. The bishop was told to open the closed churches. Why not something as outrageous as nutcases declaring themselves in Holy Orders even with a lineage of some sort. Bishops refusing or ignoring the blatant actions of women supossedly in Holy Orders are simply tearing the faith of the faithful down. The ONLY place I hear anything about the “womanpriests” is here on CCD. It seems that without CCD and the amazing levels of interest by conservative orthodox Catholics who are probably even more isolated from them than I am, the womenpriests would be another obscure group that nobody knows much about, with zero influence on the Church’s future. This would be a non-story. Does anyone know any “ordinary” parishioners at St. John of God? I would be fascinated to hear if SJoG parishioners know about Ms. Eitz’ ordination. Are they happy and supportive, apathetic and disinterested, upset and complaining, completely ignorant, or what? Now that would be a real story.

Bud, you can’t be serious. You did call them “old ladies!” That is most definitely understood in our culture as ageism, and I would add to Caroline’s comment that it is both ageism and misogyny. Please don’t hide behind the fact that “old” is an adjective that could apply in the case of the subjects at hand, depending on the age and perspective of the person so defining them; we all know that the phrase “old ladies” was meant to be perjorative, and thus was indeed ageism on your part. We also know that you do not consider these people ladies. Please. When someone chooses to be openly rude, crude and insulting in print, denouncing women as “old ladies,” for heaven’s sake, have the strength of character to own your behavior. Bud, your hand was caught, not just by your mommy, but by one and all, in the cookie jar; no sense denying it now. Adding the snide question, “Post menopausal syndrom??” to the end of your post qualifies you as a card-carrying mysogynist and an ageist. We can agree that the actions reported above are indefensible, but your own insulting, anti-woman, disrespectful writing is also indefensible. One is as one thinks, speaks, writes and behaves, Bud. It feel saddened and ashamed when a fellow Catholic thinks and writes as you have. Denying undeniable accusations and then reverting to posting statements that clearly display both ageism and misogyny does not make a credible defense. I wonder if Our Blessed Mother would show compassion and mercy for the ladies and be shaking her head at those who seem to get satisfaction out of mocking and insulting women. I don’t think that women should be priests, we have religious orders of women in the Catholic Church. However, there were deaconesses in the early Church and I think it would be good to have deaconesses in the Church today.

Even if you suspect that sending documentation of heresy or schism to a Diocesan Bishop will do no good, it is common curtesy and part of the procedure prior to writing to the US Papal Nuncio and the Vatican. It will also not allow any Bishop to deny knowledge of the Scandal in his Diocese.

It’s obvious that Olivia Doko needs attention. Humility and obedience take more courage than showing off as a self appointed goofy female bishop. If Olivia is in need of this much attention she should consider acting. I think Olivia would be a fabulous replacement, for the now deceased, Burt Lahr, as the Cowardly Lion in The Wizard of Oz. Right now Olivia is acting in the role as a disobedient and cowardly lioness.
